Professor Liu Guo was born on 1 March 1956. After graduating from the Northeastern University, he did his postgraduate study in the Art Academy of China. He was the protégé of great masters including Lu Yanshao,Liu Haisu, Wu Zuoren and Zha Munhai. He is currently the Head of the Arts Faculty in Bei Hua University, Principal of the Changbai Art Academy, Faculty Head and Professor of Jilin Provincial Institute of Education and Visiting Professor of Yian Bian University. He is also serving as Chairman or Deputy Chairman of various arts associations and societies in China.
Professor Liu Guo has incessantly devoted himself to arts education and research using Changbai Mountain as his source of inspiration. He has developed 12 new techniques for Chinese landscape painting (termed Liu Guo Landscape Technique). His most notable work is a 60-meter scroll painting of Changbai Mountain that has been acknowledged as the longest scroll in the world. He has held exhibitions in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, USA, Russia, Korea and many major cities in China. Among the more than 2,000 paintings exhibited, many have been awarded prized and have been collected by museums, national art galleries, educational institutes and famed private collectors. He has been invited many times to lecture overseas and has students throughout the world. His publications include the influential book ‘New Techniques in Chinese Landscape Paintings’ and 5 catalogues of his paintings. He has also edited a number of instructional manuals and 23 articles on arts education. Professor Liu is also the presenter of a 109-episode instructional program on painting techniques broadcasted repeatedly on national and provincial educational television networks to wide acclaims. He received the second highest provincial honor for achievement in education in 2005 and the gold prizes for two of his painting in 2006.
Besides Professor Liu’s achievement in theoretical research in arts, he has established his own style of artistic expression in his paintings. His unique style captures the essences of traditional eastern and western art forms while infusing them with the modern perception of beauty. Its innovative and bold style incorporates the spirit of nature. His paintings combine grandeur with intensity and mysticism.
Professor Liu has won numerous honors and prizes for his achievement in arts education and his biography has been included in various publications and encyclopedia of artists.
